On April 23, 2018, the city of Toronto was devastated when a man named Alek Minassian ran down a group of people. 10 died as a result of the terrorist attack. Minassian had posted on an online forum (4Chan) prior to the attack, and it linked him to a man in Edmonton.
“Quite a few people congratulated him, he said proudly, including an Edmonton man who said he was planning an attack of his own,” the report said. The man told Minassian, “Thanks man, you’ve given me great inspiration.”
However, local police deemed that the Edmontonian wasn’t a threat. The attack which was planned for November 15, 2018 wasn’t carried out. “Alberta RCMP and Edmonton Police Service were immediately made aware of the information and determined it was not a credible threat,” the RCMP said. The original posts have since been removed from 4Chan.
